Introduction:

An innovative MedTech company is seeking a Communications Lead to join their team. The ideal candidate would be a strategic thought leader in branding and communications.  An expert storyteller that creates marketing campaigns to drive consumer engagement, conversion, and competitive advantage.

Job Purpose:

A team-builder and cross-functional leader who brings communications innovation and best practices to an organization to scale and drive growth.  A collaborator who works towards the common goal of the B2C division by managing the Communications team and relevant budget and ensuring that communication initiatives are implemented successfully.  A talented communicator who can assist with special projects to assist and support revenue goals.

Education and Requirements

Minimum education (essential):

  • Undergraduate in Communications, English or Marketing

Minimum education (desirable):

  • Postgraduate in Communications and/or Business Management

Minimum applicable experience (years):

  • 8 years of which 3 years managing a team

Required nature of experience:

  • Communications management
  • Content creation (websites, blogs, email, videos, etc.)
  • Creative brand development (authoring positioning and brand story and aligning it with a visual identity)
  • Consumer Marketing, ideally have experience with retail channels
  • DTC Marketing
  • International exposure -esp. with the US
  • Public Relations
  • Integrated Marketing Strategy
  • Event management
  • Managing Marketing & Public Relations Agencies

  • Agency or big brand experience preferred

  • Excellent storytelling and branding skills
  • B2C/DTC consumer marketing
  • Media Relations expertise including press release creation, agency management, and Executive Briefings for press interviews.
  • Well-versed in mobile and web content development, including web pages, blogs, etc.
  • Product launch and integrated marketing campaign experience.
  • Microsoft Suite Proficiency

  • Mailchimp Proficiency
  • Proficient in Social Media Platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn)
  • SEO competency to develop copy

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS, WEIGHTS, AND OBJECTIVES

Team Management 

  • Ensure scalability by building team- and organisational capacity and capabilities.
  • Increase the team’s effectiveness with the following:

○    Recruitment, selection, and orientation; Training and development.

○    Assign accountabilities and plan.

○    Monitor and appraise job and project results.

  • Ensure the team meets timelines and produces content of the highest quality, always maintaining the professional image of the company, both internally and externally.
  • Ensure that the team has the support and resources it needs to thrive and develop professionally.
  • Foster an environment to encourage innovation and ensure that marketing practices are aligned with industry trends and best practices.

Strategic Communications Management 

  • Liaise, advise and strategise with relevant stakeholders on marketing strategies.
  • Develop brand and product positionings to articulate the product’s unique value propositions that align with consumer needs and the company’s core capabilities.
  • Partner with the Design Lead to create unique, impactful brand stories via inspiring content and design to leverage across all marketing mediums.
  • Compile and execute communications strategies across a range of channels (traditional and digital).
  • Monitor the performance of the strategies and make course corrections for optimal performance.
  • Drive brand messaging for the DTC model:

○    Ensure conformity across channels and instances.

○    Continuously make data-driven improvements to messaging.

  • Develop content and creative assets (photos, videos, displays etc.) for the company’s brand and associated language.
  • Develop content and creative assets for the company’s websites.
  • Partner with Digital Marketing Manager to create the right content/assets required for the website and consumer journey to move prospects effectively through the marketing funnel.

Retail Account Management 

  • Provide creative content and assets for retail accounts to support customer acquisition strategies. Includes but is not limited to:

○    Core copy

○    Videos

○    Photographs

○    In-store Displays

○    Onsite banners

Reporting and Budgeting 

  • Interpret and present feedback and figures on all communication-related marketing efforts (digital and traditional), driving optimisation in line with best practice standards and metrics.
  • Compile realistic and strategic budgets.
  • Track and report on budget spending, corresponding with resulting performance, driving optimization quarter by quarter.
  • Social media: Report approval and analysis, incorporating learnings into social media strategy to consistently improve performance and drive engagement.

Content Management 

  • Create content for and across various platforms and all ancillary forms of marketing content required.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and consistency of all website copy content.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and consistency of all content that is distributed, internally and externally about the DTC product and other special projects.
  • Liaise with the marketing and digital team about content that needs to be updated.

Social Media Management 

  • Responsible for the company’s owned social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn for the DTC model.
  • Assist the social media coordinator to develop a strategy for social media management.
  • Responsible for the growth of the marketing reach in terms of social media interactions and followers.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all social media channels are monitored and that comments and complaints are attended to as soon as possible.

Public Relations 

  • Lead media relations strategy development.
  • Day-to-day management of the Media Relations agency.
  • Partner with the agency to prepare media materials and press briefings for Senior Executives.
  • Draft and release press releases.
  • Build, maintain, and manage relationships with journalists.
  • Plan and execute DTC product launches.
  • Plan and execute large-scale events.
  • Manage logistics and events.
  • Plan and schedule external suppliers and resources including printers, photographers, videographers etc.
  • Manage the public relations agency that supports our business.
  • Lead all award efforts – identifying, submitting, and accepting awards. Make recommendations on which awards to promote and leverage through public relations.
