The Mobility Department will recruit Traffic Students for a Road Traffic Law Enforcement Further Education and Training Certificate. This twelve-month training programme begins on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Gene Louw College (GLTC), Brackenfell.

After earning the Further Education and Training Certificate, persons may be given permanent work at one of the Provincial Traffic Centres for empty and financed Provincial Inspector positions, but this is not guaranteed. Beaufort West, Caledon, George, Knysna, Laingsburg, Metro (Cape Town), Mossel Bay, Oudtshoorn, Swellendam, Vredenburg, Vredendal, and Worcester are Traffic Centres. You can choose one Centre closest to your home in the application questions. Provincial Traffic Law Enforcement operates 24/7, so candidates must be able to work shifts, including public holidays and Sundays, and additional hours if needed;

Successful candidates must find their own housing at GLTC Brackenfell and pay for their own transport, meals and accommodations for the 12-month course. Students must follow the College’s code of conduct and competency requirements and undergo extensive physical training.

Minimum Prerequisites

A Grade 12 (Senior Certificate or equivalent) with 50% or above in maths, literacy, English, and a second language;

Valid motor vehicle licence (manual) code B (no learners);

Applicants must be under 35 (35+ are excluded due to national requirements).
Applicant must be medically and physically healthy; pregnant women will not be accepted since physical tasks during recruiting and training may harm the unborn child and mother;
No criminal record or pending criminal record; Candidates must qualify under the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977 for Authorised Officer and Peace Officer positions.
Visible tattoos (hands, arms, upper chest, neck, or face) and body piercings (excluding females with one in each ear) will disqualify applicants since they will not match uniformity;
· Fluent in the language spoken by most residents in the area where the successful incumbents will be appointed;

Shortlisted candidates will undertake SAPS fingerprint checks and must pass an interview, knowledge test, fitness test, driving test, and medical test to prove they can conduct hard activity;
Successful candidates will complete a full medical, psychological, and drug examination at a provincial testing facility before admission; fitness and drug testing during the course.
If appointed later, applicants must live near their chosen traffic centre.

Recommendation

Driving experience of a year or more is preferred;

Key Performance Areas

Road Traffic Law Enforcement Training Certificate and further study must be completed. Following the terms and conditions of the signed 12-month contract during the training programme, including 24/7 shift work when needed.

Competencies
